Women on Wheels Trained 3500 Women Throughout Punjab

3500 Women Trained

The Punjab government has given training to almost around three thousand five hundred (3,500) women and that too without any charges under the initiative of Strategic Reforms Unit (SRU)—Women on Wheels (WOW). The training has been provided in five districts of Punjab ever since it was launched back in 2015.

Salman Sufi—Director General while speaking on the occasion of the 7thedition of the City Dialogue “Why Women on Wheel” which was held on Saturday by the Urban Unit said that this initiative was launched to make sure that there remains no gender discrimination, to reclaim the public spaces for women and to give freedom of mobility to forty-nine percent of the women in the province of Punjab.

Women on Wheels was launched in 2015, it plans on training forty thousand (40,000) more women in the next few months. The second phase of the launch is all set to introduce subsidized motorbike scheme especially for the women of Punjab.

Salman Sufi informed that SRU has launched thirty such reforms because developing and growing societies depend on women’s development and systems that support their grooming. He added that women are the face of developing Pakistan and it is high time for them to acknowledge the fact that they own the country exactly like men do.

He also said that it is essential for Pakistan as a society to represent itself as a peace-loving nation instead of the negative propaganda that certain sectors portray against the country.

A huge number of participants from different universities, researchers and transport engineers attended the event.

The City Dialogue is a routine activity of the city that is organized every Saturday at 11 am at the Quaid-e-Azam Library. The Urban Unit organizes its per week session with the objective to make sure that the citizens are included in the planning and implementation of the projects and plans in the cities that are for the public interest.
